On writing



“Koestler, who gives an impression of great  frailty, writes two
 pages a day or perhaps four in some eight hours of work. (Graham) Greene the same. And Julien Green’s difficulties too. I view my frailty with alarm. Or rather, I ought to be content to work a little harder and a lot more patiently when I write. The fact that I have to revise a line does not mean that I have come to the end of my rope. Or should not.”
