I just returned from a spiritual retreat this past week-end.
This week I will be away for several days visiting friends in Oregon.
Life relates to connections.

Lent and what it means to me

It's Lent. It's a time to examine my life, concentrate on prayers and fasting. Fasting not necessarily in food only.
All these things entail discipline and commitment.
It touches on attentiveness and no procrastination.
Above all it means action. Intent is not enough. A promise will not suffice.
It's doing things I maybe afraid to do. It calls for courage.
I should start learning about detachment and living it. As someone wrote before, detachment not only means giving up something but also means not acquiring new things. One more thing-detachment means being more generous.
I have to connect all these things and make it happen.

Prayer

Thomas Merton talking about prayer as narrated by Bro. David Steindl-Rast,O.S.B. in gratefulness.org who wrote:"In prayer we discover what we already have. You start where you are and you deepen what you already have, and you realize that you are already there. We already have everything, but we don’t know it and we don’t experience it. Everything has been given to us in Christ. All we need is to experience what we already possess."

...“We must approach the whole idea of time in a new way. We are free to love. And you must get free from all imaginary claims. We live in the fullness of time. Every moment is God’s own good time, his kairos. The whole thing boils down to giving ourselves in prayer a chance to realize that we have what we seek. We don’t have to rush after it. It is there all the time, and if we give it time it will make itself known to us.”

Memory

Last night I heard a talk on how to train your memory in remembering names, words, etc...
The speaker demonstrated he can remember the names of 23 different people after learning about their after 5-10 minutes. Also he showed he can remember 15 different items and their designated number in less time.

He emphasized the importance of exercising your brain just like it is a muscle.
There a few ways to help and build a memory that lasts a long time. Everyone has a perfect memory. The trick is how to unlock it.

One has to work and promote the health of the memory cells. Exercise your brain and learn a successful system.
